As Cities Burn – Come Now Sleep

One of my favorite bands has just released their sophmore effort. As Cities Burn’s first record, Son I Loved You At Your Darkest, was one of my favorites in 2005. Musically, they were hard, energetic, and passionate, while lyrically, honest, spiritual and moving. Some things have changed since the last record, most notably, the departure of lead singer TJ Bonnette. Lead guitarist Cody Bonnette has taken over vocal duties, which means less screaming and more melody. The lyrics are still spritual and honest, although in some cases more abstract. Musically it is a lot more melodic and atmospheric, without losing their energy or unique guitar style. Check out their album website, Come Now Sleep. Let me know what you think of them.

Here are the lyrics to one of my favorite songs from them: Wake Dead Man, Wake

will you still love me in famine
as when love began at the harvest
or would you gain the whole world
son, I love you at your darkest
but what good is the whole world
when I promise no tomorrow
I only promise your tomorrows
will never take you past my palm

love, what is love without trust
at my word would you bring your isaac
